This Privacy Policy explains how Shopify Translator ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our Shopify application. By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

When you install and use the App, we may collect and process the following data:

Shop data: store name, domain, locale settings, and Shopify-issued access tokens (stored securely to make API calls on your behalf).
Content data: product titles, descriptions, metafields, page content, and other translatable resources fetched via the Shopify Translations API.
Configuration data: language pairs, glossary terms, translation settings, and optional custom OpenAI API keys you provide.
Usage data: translation job history, word counts, and billing plan information.

We do not collect personal data from your customers (end-shoppers).

2. How We Use Your Information

To authenticate your store and maintain your session securely.
To translate your store content using the OpenAI API (text is sent to OpenAI solely for translation purposes).
To store your translation settings, glossary, and job history so the App functions correctly across sessions.
To process billing and subscription management via Shopify Billing API.

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in encrypted SQLite databases hosted on Scaleway (Paris, France — EU region) and backed up to Scaleway Object Storage (S3-compatible). We apply industry-standard security measures including:

HTTPS / TLS for all data in transit.
Access-controlled container environment — no public database access.
Shopify access tokens are stored only in the secure server environment and never exposed client-side.
If you provide a custom OpenAI API key, it is encrypted at rest and never logged.

4. Third-Party Services

OpenAI: Content to be translated is sent to OpenAI's API. OpenAI's privacy policy applies: openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.
Scaleway: Infrastructure provider (compute + storage) based in the EU. Scaleway's privacy policy: scaleway.com/en/privacy-policy.
Shopify: Authentication and billing are handled via Shopify's platform. Shopify's privacy policy: shopify.com/legal/privacy.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other third parties.

5. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as the App is installed on your store. Upon uninstallation, we process a app/uninstalled webhook that removes your store session. Translation history and settings may be retained for up to 30 days after uninstallation before being permanently deleted.

6. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or California, you have the right to:

Access and receive a copy of the data we hold about your store.
Correct inaccurate data.
Request deletion of your data.
Object to or restrict processing.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is intended for use by Shopify merchants and is not directed at individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the App or by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
